GLENELG, MD — Eyre Bus Service of Glenelg has been sold to RMA Worldwide Chauffeured Transportation of Rockville.
No job cuts are expected and the transaction should create job opportunities for former Eyre employees, according to reports.
Eyre Bus was founded in 1947 and serves greater Washington and central Maryland, the company stated on its website.
"We have tremendous respect for what the Eyre family and their team have built over the past 79 years," said Robert M. Alexander, chief executive officer of RMA Worldwide Chauffeured Transportation, said in a statement. "We are honored to carry that legacy forward."
The Eyre family will shift its focus to Eyre Heavy Duty Fleet Services, which performs maintenance, paint, body and repair for trucks, buses, recreational vehicles and trailers, the company stated online.
"Eyre has been a part of our family and the Maryland community for nearly 80 years, and finding the right home for the business was just as important to us as the transaction itself," Matt Eyre, president of Eyre Bus Service, said in a statement.
