1. Man Shot In Vehicle Drives Self To Howard Co. Hospital (patch.com) β Columbia residents may want to be aware that a man reported being shot while driving near Governor Warfield Parkway and Twin Rivers Road late Monday night, then drove himself to Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center. He was treated and released, and police say they currently have no suspect or motive in the Columbia shooting.

2. Food Delivery Driver Robbed In Columbia (patch.com) β Two recent robberies targeting food delivery drivers in Columbia, including incidents on Gentle Shade and Talisman Lane, have Howard County police investigating similar late-night crimes. In both Columbia cases, two men confronted drivers and stole food, and in one incident displayed a knife, though no injuries were reported.

3. Raised Intersection, Speed Humps Proposed To Combat Speeding Along Columbia Roads (patch.com) β Columbia residents are invited to an Oct. 21 open house to review plans for new speed humps on Deepage Drive and a raised intersection on Rustling Leaf aimed at curbing dangerous speeding. The session at Howard County's Office of Aging and Independence will explain how the county's Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy is being used to make these Columbia neighborhood streets safer for all users.

4. Big 'I' Installs New Chair (iamagazine.com) β A Columbia-based insurance executive, Angela Ripley of VW Brown Insurance Service, is stepping from chair to immediate past chair of the national Big 'I' association as Illinois agent Greg Sandrock takes over leadership. Her continued role on the executive committee keeps Columbia's insurance community connected to national advocacy, technology initiatives, and efforts to develop the next generation of independent agents.

5. Power to the People Brings Generations of Protest Music Together at Merriweather (nysmusic.com) β Columbia's Merriweather Post Pavilion just hosted Tom Morello's Power to the People Festival, drawing Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews and more for a politically charged day of protest music. Performers urged civic engagement ahead of the 2026 midterms, spotlighted voting-rights groups, and blended generations of artists to promote peace, justice, and community action just outside Washington, D.C.
