FULTON, MD — Cedar Lane School will host its 28th annual Walk for Our Stars on Saturday, bringing together students, families and community members for fellowship and fun while raising money for an accessible playground improvement.

This year's fundraiser supports the Cedar Lane School PTA's effort to install a retractable shade structure over the playground, creating a more comfortable, inclusive outdoor space for students.

The event will be held at Cedar Lane School, 11630 Scaggsville Road in Fulton.

Check-in begins at 9 a.m., followed by an accessible walk around the school campus at 10 a.m. Organizers said participants using different forms of mobility are welcome to take part.

The event will also include a post-walk celebration with refreshments, music and activities.

"Walk for Our Stars is a celebration of our students, families, staff, alumni, and community partners. What makes it special is that it reflects who we are as a school, a community built on belonging and a belief in every student," Cedar Lane School Principal Christine Johnson said.

Johnson said she hopes the event gives participants a better understanding of the school and its students.

"Our students demonstrate resilience, joy, determination, and countless successes every day," she said.

Johnson also emphasized the annual event's broader message of inclusion.

"I also hope people experience the power of inclusion and community. Whether someone is walking, rolling, volunteering, sponsoring, or cheering from the sidelines, they become part of something bigger, a celebration of belonging and the belief that every student deserves opportunities to thrive," she said.

The event is open to the public.

Registration is $15 and can be completed online in advance or in person the morning of the walk.
