Howard County General Hospital Holds NICU Reunion Event

Howard County General Hospital: A Member of Johns Hopkins Medicine (HCGH) will hold a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) reunion for the hospital’s clinical staff and families of former NICU patients on Sunday, March 10, 2013, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Martin’s West (6817 Dogwood Road, Windsor Mill). The reunion will celebrate life and honor Dr. Tuvia Blechman, director of HCGH’s NICU for 22 years; NICU physicians; nurse practitioners; nurses; and other care givers.

The reunion coincides with Howard County General Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Day March 10, which Howard County Executive Ken Ulman declared in a proclamation. The proclamation recognizes the NICU for providing quality care to newborns and comforting new parents.

A donation of $10 per immediate family is requested and will cover lunch, giveaway stuffed animals and children’s activities, including face painting and a performance by Pam the Kinder Singer. On-site parking is free.

The Lundy Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) cares for babies who need specialized attention because of premature birth or medical conditions. The NICU uses specialized equipment to care for critically ill newborns in an environment that fosters healthy development. To help these infants grow and thrive, parents can visit around the clock and are encouraged to gently touch and caress their baby. NICU patients benefit from the continuous care and observation of Johns Hopkins Medicine neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, physician assistants and registered nurses who are experienced with the special needs of premature babies.
