Arthritis Foundation Awarded $10k from Atlantic Insurance Group

Atlantic Insurance Group has earned a 2018 Safeco Insurance® Make More Happen Award in recognition of its commitment to making positive change happen in the local community. The award includes a $10,000 donation that will support activities and services in Maryland by the Arthritis Foundation, a national nonprofit organization committed to finding a cure and helping families develop personalized plans for living a full life.

“Our entire team feels a personal connection to the Arthritis Foundation and we are incredibly grateful to be awarded the Safeco Insurance Make More Happen Award so we can give back even more,” said Stephen Milwicz and Steven McDonald, independent agents and partners at Atlantic Insurance Group. “The work done by the Arthritis Foundation has improved the lives of numerous people in our community and these funds will help them continue to make a difference.”

Atlantic Insurance and the Arthritis Foundation initially received a $5,000 donation, but were able to double the amount with help on social media. The insurance agency and nonprofit had a story about their relationship featured on the official Safeco Insurance® Facebook page (Facebook.com/SafecoInsurance), and successfully rallied local members of the community to earn more than 200 likes, comments or shares.

“We are excited to share the inspiring stories of our agents with their communities through social media while raising funds for these outstanding nonprofit organizations,” said Lori Monsky, Safeco Insurance Mid-Atlantic Region Territory Manager. “Safeco’s Make More Happen Awards program helps to recognize the amazing work agents do in areas like greater Baltimore and hopefully motivate others to do the same.”

Out of the 52 million Americans living with arthritis, more than 1 million live in Maryland – accounting for nearly 24 percent of the state’s population. The Arthritis Foundation spreads information, hosts events and secures research grants to raise awareness and funds in a mission to reduce the impact of arthritis and other related diseases.

With the $10,000 donation, the Arthritis Foundation will be able to care for up to 50 additional families struggling with access to medications and other treatment. In addition, a portion of the donation will help address the shortage of rheumatologists by funding new fellowship opportunities.

Safeco’s Make More Happen Awards focus on nonprofits in the areas of health and safety, education and civil service. Atlantic Insurance Group was selected for a Make More Happen Award based on a photo and application demonstrating its commitment to the Arthritis Foundation, which serves 5.7 million people throughout the entire mid-Atlantic region including Maryland.

Throughout 2018, Safeco will select a total of 24 independent agents for awards and donate up to $240,000 to the nonprofits they support. The Make More Happen Awards are a part of Safeco Insurance’s Agent Giving Program.
