Baby Dies 5 Days After Pregnant Mom Shot To Death In Columbia

Rabiah Ahmad, 30, was 28 weeks pregnant when she was shot July 31 inside her home. Doctors delivered her daughter who died Aug. 5.

COLUMBIA, MD — The baby of a pregnant woman shot in her home in Columbia has died several days after her mother was killed. Rabiah Ahmad, 30, was 28 weeks pregnant when she was shot July 31 inside her home located in the 6600 block of Dovecote Drive. Ahmad was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where she later died. Doctors delivered her baby girl, Ahja, who was listed in critical condition until she died Aug. 5, the police department reported.

Police were called to the home after numerous people reported gunshots fired. Officers found several bullets inside the home. Only Ahmad was struck by gunfire.

The Howard County Police Department has increased its reward for information leading to the arrest of the shooter(s) to $10,000. The Council on American-Islamic Relations also is providing a $5,000 reward.
