Glenwood Barn Fire: 2 Buildings Deemed Total Loss, Officials Say
Two buildings went up in smoke in western Howard County Monday afternoon, fire and rescue officials reported.

GLENWOOD, MD — Smoke billowed for miles from a barn and greenhouse fire Monday afternoon in Glenwood that took about two hours to control. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and both buildings were declared a total loss, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
Two structures were engulfed in flames when officials were called to the 3000 block of MD 97 before 2:20 p.m. on Monday, July 15.
No chemicals or animals were inside the 50-by-100-foot structures, and no people were inside either, authorities reported.

Extra water supply was requested at the scene, where the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Company and the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services worked to put out the blaze, which sent a plume of smoke into the air that was visible for miles. Crews from Carroll and Montgomery counties also assisted. During the firefighting activity, Route 97 was closed in the area.
A firefighter was evaluated for an injury, and one person at the scene refused treatment, according to officials.

By about 4:45 p.m., the fire was declared under control.
The fire remains under investigation by the Howard County fire marshal.
