Bicyclist Killed in Mount Airy Crash: Police

A bicyclist was killed on Old Frederick Road in Mount Airy Saturday afternoon, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Jacob Thomas Brewer, 34, of Alexandria, Va., was declared dead at the scene on Old Frederick Road near Twin Arch Road at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, police reported.

Old Frederick Road remained closed between Twin Arch Road and West Watersville Road after 7 p.m. for investigation, according to police.

Preliminary reports indicate Brewer lost control of his bicycle while in the middle of a curve on westbound Old Frederick Road.

As a result, the bicycle crossed the double yellow lines into eastbound traffic, where it was hit by a 2008 Honda Pilot, according to police.

The 51-year-old Mount Airy man driving the Pilot was not injured, police reported.
