Lifeguards were off duty but still nearby when the 911 calls came in, according to Rehoboth Beach Fire Company Chief Chuck Snyder, so they began a line search, Delmarva Now reported. The Coast Guard, Delaware State Police and Division of Fish and Wildlife all responded to assist with the search.
Forecasters were warning of rip currents generated by Hurricane Franklin and Rehoboth Beach was under a double red flag warning – meaning swimming was not allowed in the ocean – on Thursday and Friday because of rip current and safety worries, NBC4 Washington reported.
