BREAKING NEWS: A student's discovery in the hallway at Long Reach High School has prompted a police investigation, officials say.

COLUMBIA, MD — A student found what was described as a "bullet" in a hallway during a trip to the restroom during second period at Long Reach High School Thursday morning, according to school officials. The student returned to class and was sent to the main office to report what happened.

The principal contacted the school resource officer, who in turn notified the Howard County Police Department. Authorities have added law enforcement officers during the investigation at the school on Old Dobbin Lane.

"The safety and security of our students and staff is of utmost priority," Long Reach High School Principal Josh Wasilewski said in a note to families. "At this time, we do not believe that there is any danger to the community."
