BWI Opens First-Of-Its Kind Airport Gym

A new gym at BWI offers travelers cardio machines, weights, clothing rentals and other perks.

BALTIMORE, MD — In addition to restaurants and shopping, the Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport now offers a gym for travelers.

ROAM Fitness opened the first-of-its-kind facility — an airport gym behind security that includes cardio machines, free weights and yoga mats with stretching space — this month.

To keep travelers from smelling like the gym, ROAM includes showers. Members can have their workout clothes vacuum sealed to keep their luggage odor-free too.

And for those who forgot to pack fitness gear, the gym rents out lululemon clothing and Brooks running shoes.

ROAM Fitness is located between concourse D and international concourse E, an area that has undergone significant development. An eight-lane security checkpoint opened in November as part of the $125 million "D/E Connector" project, which calls for more gates, new restrooms, additional concessions, a regional art gallery, children's play area and outdoor patio. Work is expected to be finished early this year.

This gym is the first of three that ROAM plans to open in airports nationwide this year. Its goal is to open 20 airport gyms in the next five years.

ROAM Fitness, located between concourses D and E, seeks to offer those at BWI the opportunity to get their workouts in despite traveling. Grand opening pricing will run through April 1, according to ROAM Fitness: $25 for one day, $150 for one month and $500 for one year. Customers can buy passes online or at the gym.
