
Columbia Orchestra returns to the Chrysalis for a summer evening concert for the whole family. Vocalist Lena Seikaly joins for a set of Duke Ellington favorites, her rich, soulful voice bringing classics like “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing” to life, before the first half closes with selections from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. After intermission, the evening travels south of the border, opening with Guerra-Peixe’s Mourão for strings, then Seikaly returns for a sultry Bossa Nova Suite drawn from the songs of Jobim. The night builds to a close with the vivid dance rhythms of Ginastera’s Estancia and Márquez’s irresistible Danzón No. 2, an evening that moves from the smoky clubs of Harlem to the dance halls of Latin America.
