"One the best chamber ensembles of its generation..." -La Marseillaise
One of today’s leading clarinet-violin-piano ensembles, the Zodiac Trio is known for presenting masterpieces alongside hidden gems, new works, and inventive arrangements, all with virtuosity, energy, and a distinctive sense of gusto.
Founded in New York in 2006 by three musicians from the Manhattan School of Music, the Zodiac Trio quickly established itself as a pioneering ensemble dedicated to this unconventional instrumentation. In 2007, the trio moved to Paris to study at the Paris Conservatory under the guidance of the Ysaÿe Quartet, becoming the first American group and first wind-instrument ensemble accepted into the program. Their formative years were marked by prizes at international chamber music competitions, including the Cziffra Foundation, FNAPEC, Carlo Saliva, Duchi D’Acquaviva, Val Tidone, and Yellow Springs competitions.
Today, the Zodiac Trio maintains an international concert schedule spanning three continents, performing at major venues and festivals including Lincoln Center, Ottawa Chamberfest, Festival Radio France Montpellier, the International Colmar Festival, Beijing Performing Arts Center, and Izumi Hall in Japan. Performances have been broadcast by France 3, Radio Classique, CBC, NBC, WNYC, WFMT, WGBH, RAI, and Radio France.
The trio has performed in nearly 40 U.S. states and throughout Canada, Europe, Japan, and China, including more than 30 Chinese cities. It has also presented master classes at leading institutions across North America, Europe, and Asia.
Committed to expanding its unique repertoire, the Zodiac Trio has commissioned more than three dozen new works and facilitated over 100 works through its call-for-scores initiative. Its 2015 album, Dreamtime, featured three works written for the ensemble and was praised by Sequenza 21 for bringing new compositions to life. The trio has earned critical acclaim for its “impeccable technique” (Fanfare) and “remarkable musicality of rare intensity” (La Tribune).
