Brahms: Schicksalslied
First Lutheran Church, 3604 Chatham Road, Ellicott City
Johannes Brahms began work on Schicksalslied (Song of Fate) in 1868, just months after the premiere of his seminal work, Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem). With dramatic text and instrumentation, Schicksalslied contrasts the happy lives of the gods with the unhappy fate of humankind. Contemporary works-- “A Little Jazz Mass” by Bob Chilcott and “Your Soul is Song,” by Jake Runestad-- provide a counterpoint to the Brahms. Tickets: $23, $18 (students and sr. citizens) in advance. Children 15 and under: $10. Ticket orders: www.procantare.org/Tickets.html
