Child Sex Abuse Charges Filed In Florida Against Maryland Man: Report

A Maryland man faces child sex abuse charges in Florida, according to prosecutors. He was booked into the Jessup Correctional Institution.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A 37-year-old man has appeared in a Florida court, facing child sex abuse charges in Maryland.

Caleb Clayton has been accused of abusing a girl when she was between 6 and 9 years old, according to Local10. Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Judge Mindy S. Glazer denied Clayton's bond request.

The victim, who is now 13 years old, reported Clayton abused her while he was working at the Bait ‘Em Up Bait & Tackle, at 97 NW 166 St., in Golden Glades, and at a home in the area of Miami Gardens Drive and Northeast Sixth Avenue near North Miami Beach, according to a Feb. 4 arrest warrant.

Clayton told the girl's mother, who lives in Maryland, what had transpired between him and the child, according to Local10. He faces three counts of lewd and lascivious molestation on a child younger than 12 years old.

Clayton was arrested in Maryland and taken to the Jessup Correctional Institution. Court records pulled by Local10 show Maryland prosecutors accused Clayton on Sept. 28, 2021, of sexually abusing a child from 2016 to 2020; he was convicted on Feb. 10, 2021, and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
