Columbia Crime: Drunken Indecent Exposure, Home Depot Holdup

A teen was robbed at gunpoint, a business was broken into and other crimes were recently reported in Columbia.

The Howard County Police Department provided the following information about recent incidents. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

A Baltimore man is charged with armed robbery and other offenses after police said he held up the Home Depot in Snowden Square at 2:26 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27.

The suspect was in the midst of being rung up at the store in the 9000 block of Snowden River Parkway when he showed the clerk he had a handgun and demanded money from the register. The employee complied, and the man left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police investigated and identified the suspect as a 53-year-old from the 1000 block of West Baltimore Street in Baltimore City. He is in custody in Baltimore County at the moment in connection with five armed robberies there, according to court records.

The Howard County Police Department has a warrant charging him with armed robbery, robbery, first and second-degree assault, theft and using a firearm in a felony.

Other Incidents

A window was broken at a residence in the 5600 block of Stevens Forest Road, reported at 10:02 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27. While the suspect(s) had the ability to get inside, nothing was taken.

Charges are pending against a man accused of indecent exposure in a parking lot in Fulton. Witnesses said someone was exposing himself in his vehicle in the 8100 block of Westside Boulevard at 9:12 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27. The suspect appeared intoxicated and was taken to Howard County General Hospital.

There was a break-in at River Hill Garden Center over the weekend. The back door was kicked in at the business in the 12100 block of Clarksville Pike. The burglary occurred between 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, and 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27. Nothing was missing.

A 15-year-old was robbed at gunpoint Friday night in Columbia. At 6:20 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, the teen was walking in the 6600 block of Cradlerock Way when someone approached him with a handgun and demanded his things. Nobody was injured, and the suspect took off with the victim’s cell phone. The suspect was described as a muscular, dark-complected black man in his mid 20s who was approximately 180 pounds. His face was partially covered. He was wearing a black hat, purple/gray striped t-shirt and jeans.
