Columbia Double Shooting Believed To Be Drug Related: Police

Howard County police officers believe two men were shot during a drug exchange in Columbia Monday night, Oct. 7.

COLUMBIA, MD — Howard County police believe suspects involved in a drug deal are responsible for a double shooting that happened in Columbia Monday night, Oct. 7. At approximately 9:37 p.m., police received a report of shots fired in the 9500 block of Sea Shadow. They found two men in a parking lot who had been shot.

D’Marni Ware, 19, and Jaiden Marquise Pender, 18, were taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with gunshot wounds. Ware was listed in critical condition. Pender was listed in serious condition. During the course of their investigation, police believe the two men met a male suspect to complete a drug deal, the Howard County Police Department reported. A fight broke out, officers stated, and the suspect shot both victims before taking off.

On Tuesday, Oct. 8, police arrested the suspect, Tyquan Carter, 20, of Columbia. He has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, assault and related charges.
