COLUMBIA, MD — A garage fire broke out just before 6:30 a.m. Monday at a property located in the 9400 block of Keepsake Way. Firefighters and paramedics from Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services were dispatched to the Dec. 9 incident. Firefighters discovered heavy fire in the garage that was spreading toward the attached house.

Firefighters tackled the blaze and were able to prevent damage to the main part of the home, although some exterior damage incurred on the outside of the house due to the high heat generated by the fire. The fire department reported that because the door from the garage to the home was closed, the fire wasn't able to easily spread to the house.

The Red Cross is now assisting the two adults and two children who have been displaced because of the fire. The HCDFRS Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
