Columbia Man Dies After Double Shooting: Police

A 20-year-old Columbia man injured in a recent double shooting has died, Howard County police reported. His cousin remains hospitalized.

COLUMBIA, MD — A Columbia man has died as the result of a double shooting last weekend that was an act of suspected drug-related violence, police reported. His cousin — the second victim — is in serious but stable condition, officials said Friday.

Kaiyon Stanfield, 20, of Columbia was found shot multiple times in a vehicle in the 9400 block of Woodsong Court when officers responded to a report of gunshots at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, police said. His cousin Khalil Stanfield, 21, of Silver Spring, was close by in the 9300 block of Daly Court with gunshot wounds as well, according to officials.

Police said drugs were found at the scene.

After being taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition, Kaiyon Stanfield was later pronounced deceased, police said Friday. Officials said his cousin was still in serious but stable condition at shock trauma.

Investigators believe two suspects were involved in the crime and arrested one.

Davon Phillip Jones, 20, of the 9200 block of Bridle Path Lane, is being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center, police said.

He was charged with eight offenses, including attempted murder, assault and using a firearm to commit a felony. Officials said that the charges would be amended to include murder since Kaiyon Stanfield was pronounced deceased at shock trauma.
