Columbia Man Engaged to Serena Williams
The cofounder of Reddit, a Howard High School graduate, asked tennis celebrity to marry him, and she said yes.
A former Columbia man is engaged to tennis legend Serena Williams.
Alexis Ohanian, 33, asked the superstar athlete to marry him in December. The couple is said to have been dating since fall 2015.
Williams sported the engagement ring on her trip this week to New Zealand, where she is traveling for a tennis tournament, People reported.

She announced the news of their engagement through a poem and cartoon about how the proposal went down — on one knee, in Rome — posted on social media site Reddit.
The gesture was a salute to her fiancé, since Ohanian cofounded Reddit, a social hub billed as the "front page of the internet."

Before starting the website in 2005, Ohanian graduated from Howard High School. He went on to attend the University of Virginia, where he met his roommate, and together they founded Reddit.
Williams has 22 Grand Slam singles titles to her name. She and Ohanian met at a lunch in October 2015, US Weekly reported at the time.
