Columbia Man Survived Baltimore Bus Crash: Report

Before crashing into an MTA bus in Baltimore Tuesday morning, a school bus reportedly hit a Columbia man's car.

BALTIMORE, MD - A Columbia man was reportedly among the survivors of the crash involving two buses in Baltimore Tuesday morning that left six people deceased.

Shawn Braxton was waiting to make a left turn on Frederick Avenue at approximately 6:30 a.m. when a yellow school bus hit his Mustang from behind, according to WBAL. He was on his way to work at the time.

When he saw headlights and realized the bus was not stopping, "...I just had to close my eyes," Braxton said.

Following the crash, people in the area assisted the Mustang driver.

"I'm proud that people from Baltimore came and helped me out..." Braxton told Fox 45 of those who checked on him to see if he was OK. He reportedly suffered minor injuries such as bruising due to the crash.

Ten people were hospitalized and six killed as a result of the collision, the cause of which is under investigation.

Police said the school bus was blocks away from picking up its first passenger when the vehicle hit Braxton's Mustang eastbound on Frederick Avenue, struck a pillar at Loudon Park Cemetery and continued eastbound, where it traveled into oncoming traffic and hit the driver's side of an MTA bus.

Five of the deceased were on the MTA bus, and the school bus driver was also killed, Baltimore Police Chief of Media Relations T.J. Smith said.

According to Smith, the deceased included a 33-year-old woman driving the MTA bus, 67-year-old man driving the school bus, 51-year-old man, 46-year-old woman, 51-year-old woman and an unidentified man believed to be about 32 years old.
