Donation to benefit education programs in Howard County.
The Community Foundation of Howard County, which raises, manages and distributes funds to support Howard County nonprofits, received $52,000 from The Kahlert Foundation to fund education programs in Howard County.
“Supporting education is a priority for The Kahlert Foundation. We believe a good education plays an important role in obtaining gainful employment and having a successful career,” said Greg Kahlert, president of The Kahlert Foundation, a private family foundation based in Maryland.
The Kahlert Foundation provides grants to nonprofit charities primarily in the mid-Atlantic region in the areas of health care, education, youth programs, veterans and general well-being.

Mr. Kahlert and his two children attended elementary through high school in Howard County, where he said they received an excellent education. He hopes others will also benefit from a great education. Mr. Kahlert also saw the benefits of education through his wife’s work.
“My wife Roberta was a school teacher for almost 30 years, so we were able to see firsthand how good education positively impacts the students and the long-term benefits to the local community,” he said.

The Kahlert Foundation’s donation supports the Community Foundation’s Making Up the Difference program, which funds nonprofits that received money through the Community Foundation’s community grants program but have additional need.
The donation will support: A-OK Mentoring-Tutoring, Bright Minds Foundation, Career Links, Junior Achievement of Central Maryland, Lazarus Foundation, Leadership Howard County and STEMaction.
“I lived in Howard county for over 40 years, loved the area and wanted to give back to the community I grew up in,” Mr. Kahlert said. “During my association with the Community Foundation of Howard County, I have been impressed by the organization and its personnel. The Making Up the Difference program is a great way to support Howard County nonprofits requiring financial support.”
