Day Added To School Calendar For Inclement Weather: HCPSS

To make up for inclement weather, HCPSS students will be in school one day that was planned as a day off, HoCo superintendent says.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — There has been a change to the school calendar in Howard County. One day has been added as a possible school day to the 2017-2018 school year, Interim Superintendent Michael J. Martirano announced Friday.

Students were originally not scheduled to attend school on May 18. It had previously been set aside as a Professional Work/Articulation Day and was designated as a possible makeup day.

Now, students may be asked to report for school on May 18, Martirano said.

"A decision on the specific days to be used as make-up days will be made later in the winter, when more information about the total number of days needed will be available," according to a statement from the Howard County Public School System. "Families, staff and the community will be informed as soon as the final decision is made."

By Maryland law, students must be in school for 180 days each academic year.
