Deadly Dobbin Road Crash Under Investigation

Police said two vehicles crashed in Columbia and one person later died.

COLUMBIA, MD - One person died and two others were injured in a crash on MD 175 at Dobbin Road Sunday afternoon, police reported.

At 5:30 p.m., authorities said a Honda Civic headed east on Route 175 collided with a Toyota Camry traveling south on Dobbin Road.

A man and woman inside the 2009 Honda Civic were taken with life-threatening injuries to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Shuo Zhang, 55, of Baltimore, who had been driving the Honda, was pronounced deceased, officials reported.

Honda passenger Lingyu Yin, 86, of Ellicott City, was in serious condition, authorities said Monday morning.

Police said that the woman driving the 1995 Toyota Camry was taken to Howard County General Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

Toni Marie Guthrie, 40, was treated and released, according to police, who said that nobody else was in the car.

Based on preliminary investigation, police said that it appeared the Honda went through a red light.

The intersection of Dobbin Road and Route 175 was closed for an extended period.
