DreamPort Doubles Space In Columbia Gateway

DreamPort will add 17,100 square feet to its 17,500 square-foot space at COPT's 7000 Columbia Gateway Drive location.

Columbia, Md. (July 24, 2019)—Corporate Office Properties Trust (“COPT”) (NYSE: OFC) today announced that DreamPort, a cyber innovation and collaboration center operated by the Maryland Innovation and Security Institute (“MISI”), will be doubling the space it leases at 7000 Columbia Gateway Drive to a total of 34,600 square feet..

In May 2018, U.S. Cyber Command (“USCYBERCOM”) awarded MISI a Partnership Intermediary Agreement to create DreamPort. The facility brings together entrepreneurs, small businesses and academics to work with the government, to collaborate and prototype in support of USCYBERCOM and its mission partners.

DreamPort currently occupies 17,500 square feet at COPT’s 7000 Columbia Gateway Drive and will add 17,100 square feet of co-working, lab and meeting space this fall to accommodate a growing number of collaborations occurring at the facility.

“As Columbia Gateway has grown into a preferred destination for cybersecurity and advanced technology companies, DreamPort has become a gathering place where the greatest minds in the cybersecurity industry pass through every day,” stated Paul R. Adkins, COPT’s Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. He added, “We are thrilled MISI has decided to grow DreamPort’s presence in the park, and believe its trust in COPT is a testament to our experience serving defense tenants and our knowledge of their needs.”

DreamPort opened in late 2018 after MISI was awarded a five-year Partnership Intermediary Agreement by USCYBERCOM to innovate new technologies in an unclassified, state-of-the-art facility. DreamPort’s objective is to foster collaboration and prototyping in highly configurable laboratories, co-working spaces, project rooms, and conference facilities. DreamPort also hosts collaborative, technical interchange meetings, monthly rapid prototyping events, and provides daily access to its cutting-edge facilities.

“We are very pleased to expand DreamPort at Columbia Gateway,” said Karl Gumtow, MISI’s Director. “Since opening, we have been overwhelmed by the engagement of business and academia, and the desire of all parties to come together with the U.S. Government to work toward solutions to some of the most pressing cyber challenges facing our nation. COPT has been a wonderful partner in creating a space that our partners want to come back to every day, and we are excited to build on our success at Columbia Gateway,” he added.

The unclassified collaboration occurring at DreamPort between business and government provides a glimpse into the work that is being done across Columbia Gateway by a growing number of cybersecurity tenants. Since USCYBERCOM became operational in 2011, COPT has completed 2.5 million square feet of new leasing with cybersecurity tenants, and approximately one-third of its 8.1 million square foot Maryland portfolio is leased to cybersecurity organizations.
