Driver Killed in Crash on Governor Warfield Parkway: Police

Authorities said the 18-year-old was speeding when vehicle crashed into tree.

A driver was killed Saturday night in a crash in Columbia where speed was believed to be factor, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Sahan Tilaka Kalegana Koralage, 18, of Elkridge, was pronounced dead at the scene on Governor Warfield Parkway near Windstream Drive, police reported.

Koralage had been driving a 2012 Honda Civic west on Governor Warfield Parkway from Little Patuxent Parkway when the vehicle lost control, left the road and hit a tree, police said.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and had been speeding, according to the report.

The road was closed after the crash, which occurred at 9:23 p.m. Saturday, according to police, who said Sunday morning that it has reopened.
