Cement Truck Overturns Near Rivers Edge: Officials

The crash by US 29 blocked entry to neighborhood where many students live, school officials said.

An overturned dump truck complicated things at dismissal time for students at several schools in the Columbia area, Howard County Public School System officials reported.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, the school system reported that the flipped vehicle was blocking entry to the Rivers Edge community on Rivers Edge Road.

By 4:35 p.m., the Howard County Police Department said that Rivers Edge Road had reopened.

A cement truck went off the road and overturned, according to police, who previously reported that tow trucks were clearing Rivers Edge Road, which had been shut down at US 29 while US 29 remained open.

Students at the following schools would be kept at school until the entrance was cleared, according to a report from the school system, which said parents may pick their children up at school:
