Off-Duty Howard County Deputy Fatally Shot Outside Baltimore Bar: Sheriff
An off-duty Howard County sheriff's deputy was fatally shot outside a Baltimore bar shortly after midnight Friday.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — An off-duty Howard County Sheriff's Office was shot and killed shortly after midnight Friday morning.
Howard County Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Demby was outside the Baltimore bar Mother’s Federal Hill Grille when a verbal argument broke out among other patrons. During the argument, shots were fired and the off-duty deputy was hit, according to the sheriff's office.
"Our hearts are broken for the Demby family, Ryan's friends and colleagues, and our entire sheriff's office family," the office said on Facebook.

The Howard County Police Department called Demby’s killing a “senseless act of violence” in a social media post and said officers’ thoughts and prayers are with the family.
According to the Baltimore Police Department, officers responded shortly after midnight to the 1100 block of South Charles Street to investigate a shooting and found a 23-year-old man with numerous gunshot wounds. Medics took him to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead.

At the time of the shooting, a number of Orioles players were around the corner at a bar on East Cross Street celebrating the team clinching the AL East, reports The Baltimore Banner. The players stayed inside as police secured and cleared the scene on South Charles Street, it was reported. The sheriff’s office also tweeted that the deputy’s father, Sam Demby, works for the department and participated in his son’s academy graduation in March 2023.
