Electrical Fire At Vantage House Prompts Emergency Response
Smoke in the building drew fire and rescue officials in Howard County to Vantage Point Road Tuesday night in Columbia.

COLUMBIA, MD — Renovations at a building in Columbia hit a snag Tuesday when an electrical line was hit, according to Howard County fire and rescue officials. Firefighters were dispatched to Vantage Point Road Tuesday night, where they spent about two hours before giving the all clear at the building in Town Center.
At 10:15 p.m., crews said they were investigating smoke in a building in the 5400 block of Vantage Point Road.
Residents were sheltering in place at Vantage House, where the fire occurred, officials reported after 10:30 p.m.

Ultimately, firefighters determined an electrical line was hit during renovations in the building, which houses people in retirement.
A compromised service feed caused the smoky conditions, officials reported.

By 12:30 a.m., Howard County fire and rescue crews said they were leaving the scene since the smoke had been cleared from the building.
PREVIOUS REPORT: Officials have advised there is an "incident" happening Tuesday night in Columbia. There are first responders at the scene as of 10:15 p.m., according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
Emergency officials say they are in the 5400 block of Vantage Point Road.
