Family Displaced by Columbia Garage Fire, Officials Say

The Red Cross was assisting a family of four following a fire at their Columbia home, Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue reports.

A Columbia family was displaced as the result of a fire that broke out in their garage Wednesday evening, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

After 10 p.m., first responders were dispatched following 911 calls reporting heavy fire in a garage attached to a home in the 9500 block of Woodblow Row in Columbia, the department reported.

Crews found that the fire had extended into the home’s attic, and it took approximately 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control, according to the report.

A family of four who lived at the home was displaced because of the fire, and the Red Cross was providing assistance, the report said.

Authorities said the cause of the blaze remained under investigation Thursday morning.
