Here is the letter sent Thursday, June 20:
Dear Wilde Lake Community,
I am writing to let you know that, earlier this morning, multiple students were involved in an altercation before exams began. Staff immediately responded and all parties were quickly separated. Our subsequent investigation determined that this fight was the result of several incidents in the community earlier this week. The Howard County Police Department, HCPSS Office of Safety and Security, and WLHS administration are currently investigating this information further. However, in an abundance of caution, there will be an increased security presence at Wilde Lake High School tomorrow as we continue this investigation.
School safety is our utmost priority and the Wilde Lake High School staff will continue to be vigilant and visible. Please know that we take all reports and threats seriously and will continue to work cooperatively with public safety and other agencies to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Under no circumstances will the HCPSS tolerate anyone creating a climate of fear for our students, families and staff.
I would like to thank the numerous individuals who took the time to send emails or call me today. It is this partnership that will continue to keep our staff and students safe. I encourage every student and family member to continue to reach out to me if you hear of any potential threats to the safety of our school community. If students have additional concerns and would like to speak to an adult, I also encourage them to access Student Services or any trusted staff member.
Thank you for your continued partnership keeping The Lake a safe and nurturing place for ALL of us.
Sincerely,
Rick Wilson
Principal
