File Non-Emergency Reports Online, By Phone: HoCo Police Dept.

Because of the new coronavirus, the Howard County Police Department asks that all non-emergency incidents be filed by phone or online.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — In light of the new coronavirus pandemic, the Howard County Police Department asks that residents report incidents online or over the phone if able. They offer guidelines for determining whether to call 911 or report online or over the phone.

  • This is not an emergency (if it is, call 911).
  • The incident is not in progress (if it is, call 911).
  • The incident occurred more than 30 minutes ago.
  • There are no known suspects of witnesses.
  • There is no evidence to collect.
  • The incident is not a hate or bias crime.

If all of the above are true, then report the following incidents online or by phone:

  • animal complaints
  • theft from a shed or detached garage
  • destruction of property under $1,000
  • lost property
  • harassing phone call
  • unauthorized use of vehicle
  • tampering with vehicles
  • theft from vehicle
  • theft under $5,000
  • identity theft
  • solicitor complaint
