Fire at Home of Rep. Elijah Cummings Under Investigation

The fire reportedly broke out at house of lawmaker representing parts of Howard, Baltimore counties and Baltimore City.

While U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings was in Washington, D.C., for work, his home was going up in smoke.

At 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, firefighters responded to the home in the 2000 block of Madison Avenue in Baltimore, where smoke was coming from the top floor, according to WBAL, which reported the fire was out by 11 a.m.

Cummings was attending a transportation committee hearing when the fire broke out, he later told his constituents.

“Thankfully, no one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries,” he said Tuesday afternoon.

According to Cummings, the blaze began on the third floor of the rowhouse, and the cause remains under investigation.

Cummings represents District 7, which includes parts of Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Howard County.
