Preliminary investigation indicates that Fajardo was standing behind the Ford F-150 along the highway shoulder when he was hit by a 2002 Chrysler Sebring before 6 p.m.

The driver of the Sebring—Kevin Beard, 53, of Laurel—was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment, the report said.

Police said it was unclear what caused Beard to travel across southbound I-95 onto the shoulder, where he hit a concrete wall and continued on for nearly 200 feet before crashing into the parked pickup truck and Fajardo, who was standing behind it.

The Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office was briefed on the incident, and the investigation into the collision was continuing, police said Wednesday.

The 29-year-old driver of the pickup truck was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment, while two other passengers—a 23-year-old and 36-year-old— were being treated at St. Agnes Hospital, according to police.
