Free Concerts, Art Classes, Swimming, Dancing, Fitness In Howard County
An array of activities including free concerts, art classes, swimming, dancing and fitness opportunities are available this summer in HoCo.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The 2022 Summer Series in the Merriweather District offers a variety of free entertainment and activities for all ages. Events will take place at Color Burst Park located at 6000 Merriweather Dr., Columbia.
Parking can be found at Symphony Woods Garage for the Summer Series with the first four hours free and subsequent hours only $1 per hour. There also is street parking available throughout the Merriweather District.

- June 23, 6 to 8 p.m.: Rare Essence (go-go)
- July 7, 6 to 8 p.m.: Dior Ashley Brown (hip hop)
- July 21, 6 to 8 p.m.: Zakke (Latin fusion)
Summer Fit Series

- June 21, 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.: YogaSix Y6 101
- A perfect class for beginners or those looking to get back into yoga. Perfect for all levels as you develop your strength, flexibility and stamina.
- July 5, 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.: Y6 Sculpt & Flow
- A dynamic workout that blends yoga and weight training with a dynamic warm-up followed by an intense, cross-training workout. Expect a high-energy class with a killer playlist.
- July 19, 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.: Y6 Power
- Build your strength, focus and flexibility with a full-body vinyasa class leaving you feeling energized and empowered.

- June 14, 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.: Bootcamp Double Down
- Join us for an outdoor, resistance-based bodyweight workout focused on superset exercises with a time under tension guide. Must be 16 to participate but those under 18 must have parent/guardian consent.
- June 28, 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.: Bootcamp Gravity
- Gravity is focused on accelerating your skills and shaping you into a better functioning athlete through dynamic exercises and sets.
- July 12, 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.: Bootcamp Liberty
- Workout in sync with the whole group with a resistance-based bodyweight workout. Follow the tempo and sweat it out together.
- July 26, 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.: Bootcamp Double Down
- A resistance-based bodyweight workout built to push your muscles through superset exercises and time under tension guide.

- June 18, 10 a.m. to noon: Pride & Inclusion
- Celebrate Pride with a summer pool party kickoff. Soak in the sunshine, cool off with water games, and enjoy rainbow-themed crafts and programming.
- Programming to include:
- Pool Party: Guests are invited to play in our pop-up kiddie pools. Water toys and floaties for all.
- Kids Crafts: We’re bringing the rainbow to the Merriweather District with three kids crafting areas.
- Dance Party: Local DJ will be spinning kid-friendly tunes.
- Reading: Howard County Library System
- June 25, 10 a.m. to noon: Grow: Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility
- Are you a sustainability superstar? Grow your mind with our interactive stations and discover the importance of being a good kidizen. Stop at our stations and receive superstar stamps. Once you have a full card participants will receive a sustainability superhero cape!
- Programming to include:
- Sustainability: Stop by the Howard Ecoworks station at Colorburst Park to participate in a workshop dedicated to sustainable living and learn about how we can keep our planet beautiful.
- Butterflies and Bees: Join the Howard County Beekeeper association and learn what all the buzz is about! Visit our butterfly craft corner at Colorburst Park to design your unique and beautiful butterfly creation.
- Plants: Visit with a local flower grower at Colorburst Park and learn more about the flowers all around us. Paint your own pot as a take-home or pick up a seed pack and grow at home
- Dance party: Local DJ will be spinning kid-friendly tunes.
- July 9, 10 a.m. to noon: Culture and Community
- It’s a musical morning in the Merriweather District. Kick things off with a Bollywood dance lesson, rock out with Columbia’s own School of Rock, and wrap up with some Salsa.
- Programming to include:
- School of Rock Concert: Embrace your inner musician with a concert by School of Rock. Jam out and learn the basics of being a true rockstar.
- Bollywood: Get on your feet with a Bollywood Dance Class. Discover a new culture as you learn new moves.
- Salsa: Get your body moving with famed DC teacher and salsa expert Mr. Sorto. Feel the rhythm of the music with a Salsa Dance Class just for kids.
- July 23, 10 a.m. to noon: Art and Music
- Need street cred? Curious about street art? Come out and enjoy the original graffiti art class. Explore your creative side as you learn basic drawing techniques, graffiti art letter formations and spray paint techniques.
- Programming to include:
- Graffiti Art Class: Join famed graffiti artist Rajan Sedalia for a morning exploration of street art.
- Art Stations:
- Lettering, Stamps and Stencils
- Sketching
- Sticker Collage
- Rock Painting
- Break Dance Party: Local DJ will be spinning kid-friendly tunes and guests will enjoy a break dance performance by local dancers.
