Free Mental Health First Aid Course June 2
Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center offers training
Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center is holding a free Mental Health First Aid course for Howard County residents and workers on Friday, June 2, from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., at The Horizon Foundation offices, 10221 Wincopin Circle, Suite 202, in Downtown Columbia. Lunch is included.
The Mental Health First Aid course provides information that helps people assist someone experiencing a mental health related crisis. Identifying risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, as well as strategies for helping someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, will be included. The course is sponsored by The Horizon Foundation, an independent philanthropy dedicated to improving the health and wellness of people in Howard County.
Registration is limited to 30 people. The course is free of charge to Howard County residents and employees and $69 for all others. Register at http://.grassrootscrisis.org/events/mental-health-first-aid-session-3/.

Grassroots operates Howard County’s only emergency shelter for men, women and families and the Grassroots Day Resource Center. Grassroots manages the Cold Weather Shelter in partnership with the faith community during the winter months. In addition, the nonprofit operates a 24-hour crisis intervention service, staffed by professional crisis counselors who field calls to its hotline and see walk-in clients in need of immediate counseling. Grassroots also operates the county’s Mobile Crisis Team, which responds to family emergencies.
