Friend Of Education Award Goes To 'Tireless Advocate' For Howard Co. Students, Educators

The 2024 Friend of Education award recipient has been described as a "tireless advocate for Howard County students, families and educators."

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The Howard County Board of Education has chosen Suzi Padgett as the 2024 Friend of Education award recipient. The award recognizes outstanding individuals, businesses, non-profit groups, organizations or associations for their support of the school system’s mission of helping students attain academic success and social-emotional well-being.

Described as “a tireless advocate for Howard County students, families and educators,” Padgett is a member of the Bright Minds Foundation and serves on the Howard County Public School System's Superintendent’s Program Innovation Advisory Board.

“She is a builder of people, networks, programs and initiatives, and community organizations focused on making a difference in the lives of the students, families and educators,” Howard County Education Board Chair Jennifer Swickard Mallo said at a meeting where Padgett was recognized.

The board also recognized the Howard County Chinese School as its 2024 Friend of Education nominee.

“Howard County Chinese School demonstrates the commitments of the Howard County Public School System by connecting with the community, building relationships and facilitating the development of skills which empower individuals to discover a path aligning with their unique goals and passions,” said Howard County Education Board Vice Chair Dr. Yun Lu. “Their unwavering commitment to community engagement creates a strong sense of belonging, encouraging active participation in the learning journey.”
