Helicopter Over Columbia is Conducting Inspections

Have you noticed a helicopter overhead in Columbia? This is why it's in the area Tuesday.

A helicopter contracted by utility company BGE will take to the sky on Tuesday in Columbia, according to Howard County government officials.

Officials reported that BGE plans to inspect its lines and transmission stations in Howard County, including three in Columbia and one in High Ridge.

The crews will be out in a helicopter on Tuesday, Oct. 13, according to the report.

According to BGE, helicopters may hover over transmission lines or rights of way for several minutes to get a good look.

Once the survey work is complete, BGE reviews aerial and ground images to identify areas that need repair or improvement.
