HoCo Inmate Charged in Plot to Kill Girlfriend's Ex: Police

The man met with an undercover detective at jail who posed as a hit man, Howard County police said.

A 37-year-old inmate at the Howard County Detention Center has been charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder in a scheme authorities think was domestic-related, police said Friday.

Bernard Perez-Garcia, 37, who is being held on federal immigration violations at the detention center in Jessup, attempted to have two people killed—his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend and the ex-boyfriend’s mother—police said.

After police received a tip about his plans, a detective met with Perez-Garcia and posed as a hit man, according to a report from the Howard County Police Department.

Perez-Garcia told the detective he wanted the pair killed at a store they owned in Langley Park, and he wanted it to look like a robbery, the report said.

He provided the detective with the name of the ex-boyfriend and his vehicle description, stating he would provide payment once the act was done, according to police.
