COLUMBIA, MD —The Howard County Mass Vaccination Site at the Mall in Columbia is closing for good Thursday after administering nearly 50,000 shots in a little over two months, the county said.

The site, located at 10300 Patuxent Pkwy in the former Lord & Taylor, had opened to the public on April 29.

“This site has been incredibly successful, administering nearly 50,000 shots,” said County Executive Calvin Ball. “We're very thankful to the staff (at the site), who have been doing this important work day in and out to make sure our residents are vaccinated and protected. Howard County has led the state in vaccination progress, and it's in no small part due to the outreach and work of this site."

Ball told Fox45 this morning that nearly 83 percent of county residents ages 12 and over already had gotten their first shot, while nearly 78 percent are fully vaccinated.

Howard County residents obviously still have plenty of chances to get vaccinated, with several one-day clinics listed on the county website.

The county also announced that COVID-19 vaccinations will be available to attendees at concerts at Merriweather Post Pavilion this summer.

Beginning Saturday at the M3 Rock Festival, the Howard County Health Department's Mobile Integrated Community Health team and health department nurses will be on site with all three COVID-19 vaccines, Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.
