HoCo Police Report on Weekend DUI Checkpoint

Howard County Police Department shares results of enforcement initiative.

Three people—including one juvenile—were arrested at a weekend sobriety checkpoint in Howard County, according to police.

Officers set up the checkpoint on US 40 at Governors Run Way in Ellicott City overnight Saturday, June 13, into the early hours on Sunday, June 14, according to a statement from the Howard County Police Department.

More than 1,000 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which was set up on Route 40 west, the statement said.

These are the results, according to the statement:

  • One driver arrested for driving under the influence and drug violations.
  • One juvenile arrested for drug violations.
  • One driver arrested for driving on a suspended license.

Every driver passing through received statistical information about driving under the influence.

The checkpoint was partly funded by a grant from the Maryland Highway Safety Office, officials said.

Police say citizens should designate a driver if they will be drinking alcohol or refrain from drinking if they will be driving. Those who see suspected drunk drivers should call 911.
