HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Youth in grades 7th through 12th are invited to participate in an essay, poem and art contest sponsored by the Yom HaShoah (Holocaust) Commemoration program. The deadline to submit entries falls on March 15.

There will be four cash awards for the winners who will be announced at the Commemoration planned for April 17 at 6 p.m. This year's program theme is "The 80th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, The Bravery of Resistance," shared Mark Steinhorn, a member of the Howard County Holocaust Remembrance Committee.

"I participate on the committee to honor my mother, Harriet Steinhorn-Roth, who was liberated from Bergen-Belsen, the concentration camp in which Anne Frank died, in April of 1945," Steinhorn said.
