Howard County Closing and Delay Information

Schools in Howard County will open later than usual Monday morning.

The Howard County Public School System announced that there would be a two-hour delay on Monday, Jan. 12, due to weather.

• Morning sessions of half day pre- kindergarten and RECC programs are canceled.
• All morning programs sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Department of Recreation and Parks in Howard County public schools will be delayed two hours.

Much of the state including Howard County was under a freezing rain advisory Monday morning, and roads had the potential to be icy.

Other Cancellations, Closings, Delays

• The Columbia Association will commence classes, programs or activities at 10:45 a.m. The before-school program will be delayed two hours. KidSpace will make every effort to open at 9 a.m. Please call the facility ahead to ensure proper staffing. For additional updates, call CA’s Inclement Weather Hotline at 410-715-3154.
• Federal government offices in the D.C. area are opening two hours late on Monday and employees have the option for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework.
• The Goddard School in Columbia will be closed on Monday, Jan. 12, due to water damage from a frozen pipe. It reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
• The Howard County Council monthly meeting scheduled for Monday morning has been canceled.
• Howard Community College is opening at 10 a.m.
• Howard County Recreation & Parks advises calling 410-313-4452, ext. 5 for updates.
• Liberal leave is in effect for state of Maryland employees starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, until the end of the day shift. Essential emergency personnel should report to work on time.
• Maryland School for the Deaf is opening on a two-hour delay. Liberal leave is in effect for faculty administrators and non-emergency essential support staff: administrative, clerical, Student Life staff, nurses and dietary staff.
