UPDATE: 4 Hospitalized from Crash Involving Fire Department Truck
The five-car crash near Dobbin Road involved a Howard County emergency vehicle, police said.

COLUMBIA, MD — Two firefighters and two civilians were hospitalized from a crash Friday morning that involved a Howard County fire and rescue pickup truck on MD 175 at Dobbin Road.
All of their injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening, the Howard County Police Department reported.
At 7:18 a.m., the fire department truck went through a red light on MD 175 east at Dobbin Road and collided with a Toyota Scion that was proceeding north on Dobbin Road through a green light, police said. The fire department truck — en route to a reported apartment fire — had its lights activated.

Both firefighters were taken to Howard County General Hospital while the 28-year-old Columbia woman driving the Scion was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.
After the pickup truck was hit, officials said it collided with three other vehicles waiting on MD 175 west to make a left onto southbound Dobbin Road: a Toyota van, Ford Edge and Ford Ranger.

The 45-year-old Laurel woman driving the van was taken to Howard County General Hospital, police said.
The 54-year-old Essex woman driving the Ford Edge and the 36-year-old Baltimore man driving the Ford Ranger were not taken for treatment, according to police.
The intersection of MD 175 at Dobbin Road was closed for approximately three hours for investigation.
By Friday afternoon, the crash had cleared and the intersection had reopened.
PREVIOUS REPORT — An emergency vehicle was involved in a crash that shut down a Columbia intersection Friday morning, the Howard County Police Department reported.
After 9:30 a.m., police said that eastbound MD 175 was closed at Dobbin Road for investigation into the multi-vehicle collision, which included a Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services vehicle.

Earlier, the intersection was shut down in both directions for the response to the crash, which police said resulted in injuries.
The crash occurred at 7:30 a.m., fire and rescue officials reported, advising drivers to be alert.
According to state transportation officials, there were a total of five vehicles involved.
