Howard County General Hospital Focuses On Future
The "State of Health Care" at Howard County General Hospital honed in on digital advances in the industry.

COLUMBIA, MD - From Howard County General Hospital: Howard County General Hospital held the first annual State of Health Care in Howard County on Oct. 5. The event offered insight into the vision for the future of health care in the county and worldwide and included a keynote address and award presentation.
Steve Snelgrove, president of Howard County General Hospital, shared advancements the hospital has recently made as well as the changes that will occur as the result of the new construction currently underway at the hospital.
Dr. Robert Califf presented “Creating ‘Maps’ for Health and Disease in the Digital Era.” Califf specializes in cardiovascular medicine and health outcomes research as vice chancellor for health data science and director of Duke Forge, the center for Actionable Health Data Science at Duke Health. From 2016 to 2017, Califf was the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration.

Sheri Lewis, program area manager for the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, received the first Promise of Health in Howard County award at the event. Howard County General Hospital presents the award to someone who has made a sustained contribution to the health and well-being of the Howard County community.
Lewis oversees programs on neurological health and health surveillance. She has worked closely with local, state and federal partners on the development and implementation of electronic surveillance systems, mobile health applications and analytics for modelling the emergence of infectious diseases.
