Howard County Holiday Closings for Thanksgiving 2015

The Thanksgiving week is upon us, and while a host of government offices are closing, some other institutions are open and hoping for some holiday shoppers. Here you go! Happy Thanksgiving.

Bus Service: Regional Transportation Agency (RTA) buses will not run on Thanksgiving Day, but will resume a regular weekday schedule on Friday, Nov. 27. For more information on RTA, call 1-800-270-9553 or visit www.transitrta.com.

County Offices: Closed on Thanksgiving. Police/fire/911 call centers remain open. The landfill and parks will reopen on Friday, Nov. 27; however, county government offices, courts, senior centers, historic sites and animal shelter will remain closed. While the community centers, athletic centers and activity rooms will be closed on Friday to the general public, they will be open for scheduled special or permit-approved events.

Library: Howard County Public Library will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25, with no passport service that day. All branches will be closed on Thanksgiving.

Mall in Columbia: The Mall in Columbia is open on Thanksgiving from 6 p.m. to midnight. See the mall’s holiday schedule here.

Parking Meters: Free on Thanksgiving. Fees resume on Friday, Nov. 27.

Schools: Howard County Public Schools close three hours early on Monday and Tuesday, and there is no half-day prekindergarten or RECC. Schools are closed on Wednesday for students. Offices and schools are closed on Thursday and Friday.

Supermarkets: Giant will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Giant pharmacies will be open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Harris Teeter will be open 24 hours. Safeway on Harpers Farm Road is open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. oh Thanksgiving. Target is open from 6 p.m. to midnight on Thanksgiving and midnight to 11 p.m. on Nov. 27. Walmart is open from 6 a.m. to midnight on Thanksgiving. Wegmans will be open from 6 a.m to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving. The Wegmans pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Whole Foods is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Costco is closed on Thanksgiving.

Trash: Trash collection is not happening on Thanksgiving—Thursday, Nov. 26. Howard County’s holiday slide schedule will be in effect thereafter, meaning Thursday’s collection will slide to Friday and Friday’s collection to Saturday. Learn more about the slide schedule.
