Howard County Hospital Employees To Receive Rent Subsidies

Low- and moderate-income Columbia residents working at Howard County General Hospital can take advantage of new rent subsidies.

COLUMBIA, MD — Employees of Howard County General Hospital who reside in downtown Columbia received positive news from their company. Low- and moderate-income residents who work for the hospital now can receive rental subsidies to live near the hospital.

County Executive Calvin Ball along with hospital officials held a news conference and memorandum of understanding signing Tuesday to kick off the program. Participating employees must earn incomes that fall within the guidelines established by the county's housing and community development department. The subsidies will be accessible to employees living in Columbia for up to three years.

Hospital employees also will enroll in home ownership seminars to help them transition to permanent housing once the three-year participation wraps up. Funding for the program comes from the Howard Hughes Corporation and the hospital.
