Howard County Police Increase Presence After Baltimore Riots
Police monitoring mall and village centers as well as assisting in city.

The Howard County Police Department announced it would increase its presence at village centers and malls Tuesday.
“You may see an increased police presence in areas of Howard County this evening. Due to various threats that have been shared on social media and out of an abundance of caution, the Howard County Police Department is ensuring a visible presence at places such as the mall and village centers,” police said in a statement. “There are no confirmed threats at this time, officers are out in force as a preventive measure to ensure we all have a safe evening.”
In addition to serving in the county, police were providing aid in Baltimore City after Monday’s riots.

Police Chief Gary Gardner is sending 40 to 50 officers daily to Baltimore to assist with efforts there to maintain peace in the city. There was “minor damage” to police and fire equipment from Howard due to bricks and rocks, officials said.
The department is sending officers in batches of 20 to 25 to work 12-hour shifts, and a Howard County police tactical vehicle has been deployed, police reported.
