Howard County Presidents Day 2019: What's Open, What's Closed

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Monday is Presidents Day. Celebrated on the third Monday in February, the federal holiday recognizes President George Washington's birthday. He was born on Feb. 22, 1732.

Some consider Presidents Day a day to recognize the birthdays of both Washington on Feb. 22 and President Abraham Lincoln, who was born Feb. 12, 1809.

In any event, the federal holiday means some places will be closed.

Here's a quick breakdown of what's open and what's closed in Howard County on Monday, Feb. 18.

Open For Presidents Day

County parks, community centers, Meadowbrook Athletic Complex, Kiwanis-Wallas Hall, Cedar Lane and Schooley Mill Park Activity Rooms will be open.

Regular trash, recycling and food scrap services will be in effect, and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be open.

All parking regulations and fees will be in effect.

The Regional Transportation Agency (RTA) will run as usual on its weekday schedule.

As always, the Howard County 911 Center will remain staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week; call 911 in an emergency or 410-313-2200 for non-emergencies.

Closed For Presidents Day

Howard County Government offices, courts, 50+ centers and animal shelter will be closed.

Public schools and school offices will be closed, according to the Howard County Public School System.

All branches of the Howard County Library System will be closed Monday, Feb. 18.

Most banks and the stock market will be closed.

Mail will not be sent or delivered, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

The Robinson Nature Center will be closed. Howard County historic sites are closed for the season and will not reopen until April, according to a statement from the county.

Howard County offices will reopen for business on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
