Howard County Public School System Makes Weather Decision

All Howard County public schools will open two hours late on Wednesday, Jan. 14, the Howard County Public School System reported Wednesday morning.

Morning sessions of half day pre-kindergarten and RECC programs are canceled.

All morning programs in Howard County public schools that are sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Department of Recreation & Parks will be delayed two hours.

Howard County was under a winter weather advisory until noon on Wednesday, with the National Weather Service calling for up to an inch of snow.

Before 9 a.m., the weather service cancelled the advisory and said most of the precipitation had ended, although there may be flurries or light snow through the morning.

Delays, Cancellations

The Columbia Association reports that its Inclement Weather Policy will be in effect Wednesday, so there will be no classes, programs or activities before 10:45 a.m. The Columbia Association’s Before School Program will be delayed two hours. Federal government offices are open with the option of unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework.

The Howard County Board of Education’s quarterly meeting with the County Council slated for Wednesday has been canceled.

Howard County Recreation & Parks advises calling its weather lines before going to programs or centers Wednesday. Status lines have the most up-to-date information.

The Maryland School for the Deaf is opening with a two-hour delay. Liberal leave for the delayed opening is in effect for faculty administrators and non-emergency essential support staff: administrative, clerical, Student Life staff, nurses and dietary staff.
